Prof. G R Sinha was a Keynote Speaker at the International Nextcomp2022 Conference in Mauritius

The University of Mauritius organized its third International Conference on Next Generation Computing Applications, NextComp2022, during 6-8 October 2022.  Prof. G R Sinha was invited as a Keynote Speaker for the conference. He and Prof. Gao of University of Middlesex London were the keynote speakers in the conference. Prof. Sinha delivered the Keynote lecture on “Intelligent Computing and Intervention for Augmented Mental Health and Community Wellbeing”.  He highlighted on the role and use of intelligent computing techniques in study of behavior, mental disorders, cognitive ability, and improved community wellbeing using intelligent over biomedical signals; in addition to the role of intelligent computing for smart city and bringing paradigm change in education contributing altogether in achieving sustainable development goals of United Nations (UN) for education, smart city and quality health. Prof. Sinha was also invited to visit the University of Mauritius post keynote lecture where he had interaction with the Dean and other faculty members and discussed about research and academic collaboration. Prof. Sinha is also a member of Board of Examiner of the Faculty of Information, Communication and Digital Technologies, University of Mauritius.

  • G R Sinha delivered a motivational lecture on ” “Know and align yourself to your goals: Dream comes true” to B.E. (CSE and ISE) students at Don Bosco Institute of Technology Bangalore on 15th October 2022.

Prof G R Sinha will be the Principal Investigator of Smart City Surveillance Project Funded by Toshiba Software (India) Pvt. Ltd. (TSIP)
An MoU was signed between the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIITB) and Toshiba Software (India) Pvt. Ltd. (TSIP) at the Bangalore office of TSIP on 28th October. The MoU was signed by Mr. Ramdas Baliga Bantwal, Managing Director of TSIP and Commodore S R Sridhar, Registrar of IIITB. The MoU signing ceremony was attended by MD of TSIP Mr. Ramdas, Prof. Debabrata Das, Director IIITB, Prof. Srinath, Dean (Research) IIITB, Mr. Vivek Yadav of IIITB, Scientific officer and Mr. Ravi Verma, Research Director, TSIP.
As a part of the MoU, TSIP has donated a CSR grant to conduct a research on Smart city surveillance through intelligence, sensor data analysis and monitoring under low-light conditions during the current academic year. This project grant will be led by the principal investigator, Prof. G R Sinha of IIITB with a smart city team and expertise executing this project.
TSIP has been partnering with IIIT Bangalore to promote education that includes a broad range of activities, for example, supporting research grants that can provide this stipend to needy students, participating in setting value-based curriculum, knowledge sharing through seminars, conducting career mentoring sessions for students and related activities to help IIITB as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.

Let’s Talk Spatial

Let’s Talk Spatial, a geospatial meetup group in Bangalore, coordinated and supported by IIIT Bangalore and IEEE GRSS Bangalore Section organized a meetup discussing OpenStreetMap and the art of map-making on 30th October 2022.

The event started with Saikat Maiti, program manager at Grab, demonstrating various OpenStreetMap tools to edit, add and view data along with its changeset. He showed adding a new road layer on OSM by using JOSM along with viewing your changeset on osmcha.org and openstreetmap.in

Following that, Ramya Ragupathy, module owner at Humanitarian OpenStreetMap, spoke about downloading OSM data using various Command Line interfaces and web tools. She also showcased her maps and motivation to participate in the 30 days Map Challenge organized every year in the month of November.

As a concluding session, Bhuvanamitra S, team lead of GIS and Remote Sensing at SatSure demonstrated the art of map making using data from Shuttle Radar Topography Mission Digital Elevation Model and GPS tracks using Aerialod and Blender.

A break-out networking session with refreshments was arranged following the presentations from the speakers. Participants expressed joy in learning about OpenStreetMap and Maps in general.
