IIIT-Bangalore Marks World Environment Day with Tree Plantation Drive

As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, the IIIT-Bangalore community organised a tree plantation drive on May 26, 2026, reaffirming the Institute’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Students, faculty, and staff participated in the initiative by planting saplings across the campus, contributing to a greener and healthier environment. The activity highlighted the importance of collective action in conserving natural resources and promoting sustainable practices.


IIIT-Bangalore Marks Parisar Pravesh of Extension Campus

IIIT-Bangalore celebrated the Parisar Pravesh of its Extension Campus on Hosa Road, marking an important milestone in the Institute’s continued growth and expansion.

The occasion brought together faculty, staff, and members of the IIIT-Bangalore community to commemorate the beginning of a new chapter in the Institute’s journey. The ceremony reflected IIIT-Bangalore’s commitment to expanding its academic and research ecosystem to support future growth.

The celebrations concluded with a traditional plantain leaf lunch, providing an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the occasion.


 COSS Executive and Advisory Committees Meet at IIIT-Bangalore

IIIT-Bangalore hosted the in-person meeting of the Executive Committee (EC) and International Advisory Committee (IAC) of the Centre for Open Societal Systems (COSS) on June 2–3, 2026.

The two-day meeting brought together EC and IAC members along with COSS teams to review ongoing projects, discuss budget planning, and chart the roadmap for future engagements. The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration and advancing the Centre’s research and development initiatives.


Tele-MANAS Crosses 40 Lakh Calls

The National Tele Mental Health Programme, Tele-MANAS, has crossed the milestone of supporting more than 40 lakh calls since its inception, reflecting the growing need for accessible mental healthcare across the country.

Available 24×7 and free of cost, Tele-MANAS provides immediate mental health support and counselling to individuals seeking help. The milestone highlights the increasing awareness of mental health and the importance of making timely care accessible to everyone.

Developed by IIIT-Bangalore in collaboration with its partners, the platform continues to play a vital role in strengthening India’s digital mental healthcare ecosystem, ensuring that support is available to those who need it, whenever they need it.


M.Tech Students’ Project Accepted for Publication

Harshal Purohit and Hrushikesh Nakka, M.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering students from the 2024 batch at IIIT-Bangalore, have achieved a significant milestone with their project, Driftwatch, developed under the guidance of Prof. B. Thangaraju.

The project has been accepted for publication in ADMIN Magazine – Issue 93. The publication recognises the team’s work and highlights the quality of research and innovation undertaken by IIIT-Bangalore students.

The paper is authored by Harshal Purohit, Hrushikesh Nakka, and Prof. B. Thangaraju.


IIIT-Bangalore Celebrates International Yoga Day

IIIT-Bangalore celebrated International Yoga Day on June 19, 2026, with enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and staff. The session brought the campus community together to practice yoga and reflect on its role in promoting physical well-being, mental wellness, and holistic health.

Addressing the gathering, Director Prof. Debabrata Das highlighted the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life, describing it as a holistic practice that fosters health, focus, resilience, and inner harmony. Referring to this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” he encouraged the community to adopt mindful habits that contribute to lifelong physical and mental well-being.


Prof. Sujit Kumar Chakrabarti Delivers Guest Lectures at TH Aschaffenburg University

Prof. Sujit Kumar Chakrabarti of IIIT-Bangalore was invited as a visiting lecturer at TH Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany. During his visit, he delivered lectures on event-driven architectures, declarative software engineering, and securing safety-critical controllers against single-event upsets.

The sessions provided students and faculty with insights into emerging areas of software engineering and dependable systems, fostering engaging academic discussions.

The visit reflects the growing international collaboration between IIIT-Bangalore and TH Aschaffenburg University, strengthening academic partnerships and promoting global exchange in teaching and research.


Integrated M.Tech Student Presents 5G Spectrum Research at IEEE Summer School

Shantanu, an Integrated M.Tech student at IIIT-Bangalore, presented his research poster and paper, “Data-Driven Discovery of 5G Spectrum Auction Archetypes Using Machine Learning,” at the JTG/IEEE Information Theory Society Summer School 2026, held at IIT Delhi.

His research analysed more than 30,000 spectrum auction records from multiple countries, using machine learning techniques to identify structural patterns in telecom spectrum markets and predict auction outcomes. The work was carried out under the guidance of Prof. Sridhar as part of Shantanu’s Summer Internship and Project Elective.

The presentation provided an opportunity to showcase IIIT-Bangalore’s research to participants from academia and industry while highlighting the Institute’s focus on advancing research in telecommunications and data-driven technologies.


IIIT-Bangalore Marks Food Safety Month with Awareness Programme

IIIT-Bangalore, in partnership with Spices N Chefs, organised an awareness and celebration programme to mark Food Safety Month on June 24, 2026.

The event brought together around 50 participants for interactive sessions on food safety standards and personal hygiene, highlighting the importance of safe food handling and healthy practices. The programme aimed to promote awareness of food safety and encourage responsible habits that contribute to individual and community well-being.
