This marks the third time IIIT Bangalore has qualified for the ICPC World Finals, following its earlier appearances in 2017 and 2018. The previous qualifying teams included Aditya Paliwal, Simran Dokania, and Syam K. B., underscoring the institute’s consistent excellence in competitive programming.
The ICPC World Finals 2026 will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 15 to 20 November 2026, hosted by the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy.
Widely regarded as the world’s oldest, largest, and most prestigious programming competition for university students, the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) challenges teams of three students to collaboratively solve complex algorithmic and real-world programming problems using a single computer within a stipulated time. The contest evaluates participants on problem-solving ability, teamwork, analytical thinking, and programming expertise.
The 2026 ICPC competition witnessed remarkable global participation, with 60,948 students competing as 35,480 teams from 3,148 academic institutions across 103 countries. The contest was conducted through 251 regional competitions at 1,312 contest sites, supported by 12,558 coaches and 1,879 volunteers, bringing together a total of 70,611 participants in the ICPC regional contests.
IIIT Bangalore’s qualification is the result of sustained dedication, rigorous preparation, and the institute’s strong culture of competitive programming. Over the years, Professor Muralidhara V. N. and Vivek Yadav have mentored students in competitive programming, playing a pivotal role in nurturing talent and building a legacy of excellence that has enabled the institute to qualify for the World Finals for the third time.
The institute congratulates the team on this remarkable achievement and wishes them success as they prepare to represent IIIT Bangalore and India at the ICPC World Finals 2026 in Dubai.
