IIIT-Bangalore hosted Sangam: Digital Twin initiative of DoT
The second outreach programme for the Sangam: Digital Twin initiative by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in collaboration with the Telecommunications Centers of Excellence (TCOE) was hosted by IIIT-Bangalore witnessed overwhelming participation and enthusiasm from distinguished leaders, visionaries and innovators from industry, academia, startups and MSMEs. The CEO of Niti Aayog, Shri B V R Subrahmanyam, Secretary of Department of Telecommunications, Dr Neeraj Mittal and Director of IIIT-Bangalore, Prof. Debabrata Das engaged on fruitful dialogue session during the highlight session of ‘Sangam Dialogue’ and deliberated on the role of technology to achieve the Vision 2047 – the Viksit Bharat.
The programme served as a shared platform for all stakeholders to deliberate, ideate, and explore tangible solutions, along with collaborative opportunities, while charting the course for such a transformative initiative.

IIIT-Bangalore invited Prof. Matthew Zook, Department of Geography at University of Kentucky to speak on ‘Blockchain Real Estate: The Messy Landing of Digital Property’. His research centers on evolving economic and social practices afforded by information technology and big data.

ACCS Design Challenge 2023 Award Ceremony
The Finals of the ACCS Design Challenge 2023 (ADC2023), a program by the Advanced Computing and Communications Society (ACCS), took place at IIIT-Bangalore on March 16-17, 2024, with the support of M/S Boat Lifestyle. Starting in August 2023 with numerous ideas submitted, the engineering innovation journey of hundreds of students progressed through various phases, culminating in the selection of 12 teams from across India for the finals after the semi-finals held in Makers Village, Kochi, Kerala, on December 9-10, 2023.

MoU with EkStep Foundation to establish Centre for Open Societal Solutions (COSS)
The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IIIT-Bangalore and the EkStep Foundation marks the establishment of the Centre for Open Societal Solutions (COSS) at IIIT-Bangalore. This collaboration signifies a significant milestone in the pursuit of leveraging technology and innovation for addressing societal challenges and fostering open solutions for the benefit of communities.

Happy Healthy Hour & Women’s Day Celebrations
IIIT-Bangalore celebrated International Women’s Day March 20 in the presence of our Director, Prof. Debabrata Das and Registrar, Commodore SR Sridhar (Retd), alongside faculty, staff and students. The festivities commenced with a special Zumba session led by Ms. Praseena for women and a Pranayama session conducted by Mr. Indranil for men. A heartwarming movie titled ‘Devi’ was screened for the women, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony and a spirited game of hopes relay, brimming with laughter. Winners and runners-up were awarded delightful prizes and delectable snacks were savored by all. Additionally, surprise gifts and goodies were bestowed upon the dedicated women employees of IIIT-Bangalore, making the occasion truly memorable.

RISE 2024: Uniting Minds for Innovation and Entrepreneurship
RISE 2024 exceeded all expectations, becoming a vibrant event for enthusiasts of research and innovation. Over 500 visitors attended the two-day affair, which commenced with a one-day summit themed ‘Sustaining and Scaling up Innovation & Entrepreneurship in Academia.’ The discussions centered on cultivating a sustainable ecosystem to support Indian startups in addressing global challenges. Esteemed industry leaders like Mr. Chandran Krishnan, Founder, MD & CEO of Campus Angels and Mr. Uday Prabhu, Chief Innovation Officer at Bosch Global Software Technologies Pvt. Ltd., set the tone with insightful keynote addresses.
The RISE Open House showcased a wide array of research through posters and demos spanning various domains, including Data Science, Computer Science & Software Engineering, Physics, Network Communications and Signal Processing, IT and Society and VLSI. The exhibits featured cutting-edge technologies and innovative methodologies, covering topics such as privacy protection in video data, virtual avatars for enhanced human-computer interaction, and advanced algorithms for multi-robot path planning. Additionally, posters highlighted emerging technologies like quantum internet and hardware accelerators for radio demodulation, alongside practical applications like IoT-enabled environmental monitoring systems and 3D virtual environments generated from real-world traffic scenes. This diverse range of topics underscored the multidisciplinary nature of modern research and its profound impact on society and technology.
Attendees gained valuable insights into trending research directions, collaboration opportunities, and educational pursuits for both undergraduates and postgraduates. The event’s emphasis on flexible IP policies and networking opportunities for internships and job placements further enhanced the experience for all participants.

Sangam 2024
The spirit of Sangam was alive and vibrant as alumni reconnected with old friends, reminisced about cherished memories and forged new connections. The sense of camaraderie and belonging permeated the atmosphere, creating an unforgettable experience for all.
Families joined in on the fun with a dedicated Kids Room, where children enjoyed a variety of engaging activities under the care of students. From arts and crafts to games and movies, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
The Experience Zone sparked curiosity and creativity among attendees, offering interactive exhibits and installations that transported them to different worlds. There were games, tarot card reading and a lovely photo booth which immediately captured memories and presented them in a lovely frame.
No reunion is complete without delicious food, and Sangam 2024 delivered on that front! Attendees indulged in a mouthwatering array of snacks and treats in stalls by students, they also enjoyed dinner as they caught up with old friends and made new memories.

RISE PhD Colloquium
As part of RISE 2024, a PhD colloquium provided doctoral students with a platform to showcase their research findings and receive feedback from peers and faculty members. This event allowed students to present their work, discuss emerging trends and explore interdisciplinary collaborations. Prof. Debabrata Das, our Director, delivered a detailed presentation addressing research scholars. He provided insights on defining research problems, solving them and writing high-quality technical papers in their respective areas of interest.
