Carnatic Code
As part of the Institute’s Silver Jubilee year celebration, On September 1, a mesmerizing Carnatic music concert, Carnatic Code was organised at IIIT-Bangalore featuring eminent artists in the field. The concert had much coveted artists including Sri. Nishanth Chandran on the Violin, Sri. BC Manjunath on the Mridangam, Sri. Guruprasanna G on the Kanjira and Smt. Bhagyalakshmi M Krishna on the Morsing.
The evening began with light the lamp by Prof. S S Prabhu, retired professor of IIIT-Bangalore and Commodore S R Sridhar (Retd), Registrar of IIIT-B. The concert featured the soul-stirring musical performances by the artists. To provide a deeper understanding of Carnatic music, the artists engaged in interactive sessions with the audience. They discussed the fundamentals of raga, tala, and the intricacies of classical compositions, allowing attendees to gain a deeper appreciation of the art form.

Teacher’s Day
Every year, the students of IIIT-Bangalore eagerly wait for Teacher’s Day to exhibit their gratitude to their beloved teachers. There was a special and heartwarming initiative was taken by the Art club of IITB. The students came together to create handmade cards as tokens of appreciation for their teachers. The teachers, overwhelmed with emotion and appreciation, acknowledged the heartfelt gestures of the students.

Blood Donation Camp
Aikyam-NSS of IIIT-Bangalore organized a social cause event combining a Blood donation and Stem Cell Donor Camp at the campus. This initiative aimed to promote awareness about the critical need for blood and stem cell donations, as well as to encourage students and staff to become potential donors and save lives.
The blood donation drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff members. The camp provided a safe and hygienic environment for blood donation that collected more than 100 blood units.

All Hands Meet (AHM) to Address Students’ Grievances
In an effort to enhance communication between the IIITB Administration and the student community, an ‘All Hands Meet’ (AHM) was organized to address a spectrum of student-related issues, including academics, research, hostel facilities, food, and student welfare. Professor Debabrata Das, the Director, presided over the AHM meeting and highlighted that this initiative was introduced for the first time on the IIITB campus. He emphasized that the AHM serves as a platform to listen to and address a variety of student concerns.

Onam Celebrations
Onam, a splendid celebration adorned with vibrant flowers, people dressed in pristine white and off-white attire and a delectable feast. The campus buzzed with the spirit of Onam, turning it into a joyous occasion. The festivities commenced the night before, as a dedicated team of volunteers worked tirelessly, using over 25kg of flowers to craft an elaborate and grand flower rangoli, known as pookolam.
As the drummers concluded their performance, the evening unfolded with everyone capturing the moment in grand and traditional attire, marking the beginning of a year-long anticipation for the return of King Mahabali. The drummers, clad in classical attire, not only embraced tradition but also infused modern movie beats into their performance, ensuring that the celebration was thoroughly enjoyable for all.

‘Hack-the-Metaverse’ Hosted at IIIT-Bangalore
The IEEE Computer Society Bangalore Chapter is thrilled to announce “Hack-the-Metaverse,” a groundbreaking Metaverse hackathon set to take place at the prestigious International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B) from September 12 to 15.
The participants delved into the Metaverse as they obtained a comprehensive understanding of its technology and applications and they benefited from tutorials, training sessions, problem-solving challenges and an exciting hackathon competition. Furthermore, they’ll have the chance to showcase their projects to industry professionals.

Engineer’s Day
Engineer’s Day is celebrated annually on September 15 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, a renowned Indian engineer and statesman. This day serves as a tribute to the invaluable contributions of engineers to society. To mark this special occasion, Prof. Dinesh Babu Jayagopi delivered an inspiring talk on “Human Centered AI Science & Engineering”, motivating young minds and celebrating the spirit of engineering.

Cultural Programes to Commemorate Silver Jubilee
On September 18, IIIT-Bangalore held celebrations having completed 25 years! To commomorate this key Foundation Day, the entire insitutute dwelled into the celebrations mode with cultual activities by the students, faculty and staff. The event began by lighting the lamp by our Director, Dean Academics, Prof Chandrashekar Ramanathan, Dean R&D Prof Srinath Srinivasa, Dean Faculty Prof. Shrisha Rao, Dean Student Affairs Prof. Manisha Kulkarni, Registrar Commodore Shridhar and Student representatives Sahiti and Gowtham. On this special occassion, Prof. Thangaraju Balasubramanian, Prof. VN Muralidhara and Prof. Meenakshi D’ Souza were awarded the Certificate of Appreciation by the Director in recognition of their substantial teaching contribution at IIIT-Bangalore during the period 2020 – 2023. Krishna Prashanth, Prof. Chandrashekar Ramanathan’s son, Krishna Prashanth gave audience a mesmerizing rapper song performance. Our Senior Placement Officer, Ms. Roshni D’Souza’s son, Jonathan D’Souza enchanted the audience with his keyboard rendition of ‘River Flows in You’.
There was a captivating fusion of tradition and Bollywood flair by the female staff members who performed a group dance to a song, ‘Ghoomar’ from the movie, Padmavat. It was choreographed by Tanya. Moving on was a world of grace and elegance as Impulse, our Dance club, takes center stage to present a mesmerizing semi-classical dance performance.
A breathtaking performance by the theatre club, Parvaaz moved the audience. A drama that invited everyone into witnessing a riveting and tragic drama that delves into the life of the infamous Shakuni. The cultural evening was culminated by an electrifying performance of western dance by Impulse again.

Haasya Kavi Sammelan
As part of IIIT-B’s Silver Jubilee year celebration on September 22, 2023, Hasya Kavi Sammelan unfolded at IIIT-Bangalore, featuring distinguished poets renowned for their wit in the field. This event, dedicated to the celebration of humorous poetry, brought together some of the most acclaimed humorists and poets from the region. The audience, eager for laughter and clever verses, found the Hasya Kavi Sammelan to be an unforgettable experience.
The lineup of eminent poets included Dr. Vivek Vijay, Associate Professor at IIT Jodhpur, Dr. Sartaj Ali, Associate Professor at IIT Jammu, Dr. Ram Akela, Director, Poet & Author, and Mr. Shubham Pandy from IIT Jodhpur. Their performances left the audience in stitches, earning hearty laughter and applause after each verse. The poets delved into a diverse range of topics, from everyday life and relationships to addressing social and political issues.

MoU Signed between IIIT-B and SAP Labs
IIIT-Bangalore and SAP Labs India entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) bolster the exchange of knowledge between academia and the enterprise sector. The MoU emphasises a partnership in conducting joint research on specific industrial topics and challenges, which will contribute to ongoing skill development in niche technology areas.

Graduation Ceremony of CPE
The graduation for the Continuing Professional Education (CPE) programme at IIIT-Bangalore was held. The celebration was the success of over 5,000 learners who aced their online certificate programs in Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Software Development. Around 700 of our graduates showed up in person to soak in the moment, while 3,000 joined the celebration online. These fantastic programs were made possible through IIIT-B’s tech partnership with upGrad.
The Chief Guest of the event Ms Sindhu Gangadharan, SVP and MD, SAP Labs India and Vice Chairperson, NASSCOM along with Prof Debabrata Das, Director of IIIT Bangalore and Mr Mayank Kumar, Co-Founder & MD, upGrad distributed awards to the high performing working professionals who attended the programme.

Yourdost Workshop Equips IIIT-B’s Security Personnel to Manage Distressed Students
Dr. Bhooma Krishnan, Senior Psychological Counsellor from YourDost conducted a workshop tailored for the security personnel at IIIT-Bangalore. The workshop’s aim was to empower them with the expertise and capabilities needed to manage distressed students. Mrs. Bhooma delved into various aspects, including recognizing symptoms, navigating such situations with maturity, offering guidelines for incident reporting and emphasizing crucial do’s and don’ts. She shared insights on establishing a connection with students and advised keeping a vigilant eye on hostel rooms, urging prompt reporting of any suspicious incidents to the relevant authorities.
