Felicitation and Valedictory Function of Silver Jubilee Year
The November 3 Felicitation and Valedictory event marked the grand finale of IIIT-Bangalore’s year-long Silver Jubilee celebration. It honored the trailblazers pivotal to the institute’s 25-year journey, including former and current Chairmen. Mr. N. Viswanathan, Padma Vibhushan Mr. N. R. Narayana Murthy, Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan and Prof. S Sadagopan, Former Director of IIIT-B were among those recognized. Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan and Prof. Debabrata Das unveiled the institute’s anthem, while a Silver Jubilee Coffee Table book was unveiled by the Director and the three Chairmen. The event concluded with a sumptuous plantain leaf lunch.

Umang 2023
Umang 2023 marked the 4th edition of IIIT Bangalore’s annual intercollege sports fest, spanning from November 3rd to 5th. With over 850 students from 25 colleges participating in 10 diverse events, including Football, Volleyball, Chess and more, this iteration was the largest yet. The opening ceremony on November 3 featured the hoisting of the IIIT-B flag and a performance by the music club, Symphony, with our Director, Prof. Debabrata Das inaugurating the event.
Day 1 saw spirited matches and a festive atmosphere, with food stalls catering to players and students. On Day 2, despite some rain, the energy remained high, featuring numerous home team matches. The final day witnessed intense matches, securing IIIT-B’s first place in Chess and Powerlifting and second in Men’s Table Tennis. The event concluded with a grand ceremony in the sports complex, attended by the Director and Special Chief Guest Trupti Murgunde, a renowned badminton player and Dhyan Chand awardee. Winners received certificates, medals, trophies and prize money.

Bangalore on IT Session
On November 8, IIIT-Bangalore hosted a talk by Dr. Pramod Varma, Former Chief Architect of Aadhaar & India Stack, CTO of EkStep Foundation, Co-Founder of FIDE.org, and Creator of becknprotocol.io. As the Co-Chair at Center for DPI (CDPI.dev), he presented a captivating topic, ‘Towards Inclusive Digital Economy: India’s Digital Public Infrastructure Journey.’ Dr. Pramod elaborated on how India’s digital evolution relied on strategic thinking, collaboration and innovative solutions. He underscored the successful navigation of significant challenges, leading to the establishment of a thriving digital ecosystem and the implementation of a digital identity program covering over one billion people. This transition, marked by strategic planning and collaborative efforts, has laid a solid foundation for an extensive digital landscape, positively impacting the nation’s vast population.

Aiykam-NSS Diwali Carnival 2023
IIIT-Bangalore’s Aikyam NSS Club hosted a Diwali Mela on campus, raising funds for social initiatives. The event featured traditional and modern games, bringing joy to participants. A magic show and a palm reader booth offered unique experiences. The Aikyam NSS Club successfully gathered an impressive INR 30,000 during the Diwali Mela.

Deepavali bonus to supporting staff and security
Our Director, Prof. Debabrata Das, demonstrated gratitude by providing Deepavali bonuses to our supporting staff and security personnel. This gesture acknowledges their relentless efforts in ensuring the seamless functioning of essential support services on the campus.

Deepavali Celebrations
The festive spirit of Deepavali engulfed all the students, who celebrated with exuberance, embracing the festival with lights, music, rangolis and vibrant enthusiasm. Engaging in the festivities, they participated in a Diya Painting Competition and Rangoli Competition, adding creative and artistic elements to the celebration. The campus came alive with the joyous energy of students coming together to commemorate the festival in a colorful and spirited manner.

‘Joy of Giving’ Event
The Aikyam NSS Club of IIIT-B organized a heartfelt event for the invaluable housekeeping staff on November 12. This initiative aimed to express gratitude for their hard work in maintaining campus cleanliness. Carefully planned, the event featured games, a delicious meal served by Aikyam NSS volunteers and opportunities for the housekeeping staff to showcase their talents. Each member received a set of 6 cups with a tray as a token of appreciation.

Children’s Day at Orphanage
The visit to Surabhi Adwaya Orphanage had a profound impact on both students and Aikyam NSS Club members. The purpose of the visit was to bring joy and happiness to the children, participate in playful activities, and enhance their well-being through donations, on Children’s Day. The experience reinforced the belief that small acts of kindness and shared moments of joy can significantly impact those in need. Aikyam NSS Club remains dedicated to contributing positively to society, particularly for those in vulnerable situations. This visit reflected their commitment to spreading happiness and making a positive impact on children’s lives.

Kannada Rajyotsava Celebrations
The entire IIIT-Bangalore community united to celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava commemorating the state’s formation in 1956 by merging Kannada-speaking regions. Officially named Karnataka in 1973, the event on November 15 featured students singing and dancing to popular Kannada movie tunes. The event was anchored by Bhushitha N. K. and Gautam P. K and it began with a scintillating performance of the Nadageete by Symphony, IIIT-B’s music club, followed by a high energy patriotic song led by our CAO, Mr. Jagadeesh Patil and Dean(Academics), Prof. Chandrashekar Ramanathan.Dean (Academics) and staff members. The festivities showcased Dollu Kunitha and Kansale, renowned tribal dance forms, taking center stage.

Blooms and Brushes by Art Club
A flower-making workshop, Blooms and Brushes by Art Club lasting approximately 2 hours, brought together students and art club members in the campus front lawn. Led by Bhoomika, with support from art club members Manaswitha, Hemang, Vrajnandak, Vidhish, and Anshul, the participants learned to create stocking flowers. Twenty-seven students attended, receiving materials from the art club and taking their beautiful creations home after the event.

Rhythm Rumble – Dance Competition
“Rhythm Rumble,” the first iteration of a thrilling dance battle, took place at IIIT-Bangalore on November 18, transforming the college landscape into a mesmerizing stage on the basketball court. The competition featured five diverse teams, each showcasing a fusion of dance styles and personalities. Judges Tanya Jain, Naga Srihith, and alumna Vaishnavi from iMTech 2017 witnessed the electrifying street vibe. M.A.D. emerged as the competition winner, with Puchuk Puchuk and Bhatt ke Patake securing the 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.

Debate Competition
The III-Bangalore’s Debate Society organized a Constitution Day (celebrated on November 26) debate with eight teams of three participants each. The event facilitated a vibrant exchange of ideas, where participants delved into various constitutional principles. Additionally, it served as a valuable practice session for the teams before representing the college in external debates. Varshith Vattikuti, Vikas Kalyanapuram and Vishruth Vijay were the judges for the event.

Women’s Health Awareness Session
The women folk of IIIT-Bangalore attended a special session by Dr. Kameshawari Devi, a social worker and cancer care activist on Women’s Health Awareness, focusing on key topics such as Breast Cancer, Cervical Cancer, PCOD (Polycystic Ovary Disorder) and Balance diet. This session provided valuable insights into women’s health issues and empower participants with knowledge for proactive health management.

CPE Graduation Ceremony
The graduation ceremony of the second cohort of the “Post Graduate Diploma in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence” programme of POWERGRID was held on 24th November 2023 at the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-Bangalore) campus. The Director of IIIT-Bangalore – Prof Debabrata Das inaugurated the event and Shri Stanley Mathews, ED – HRD, and Corporate Communications gave the Chief Guest address. Prof R Chandrashekar, Dean-Academics, IIIT-Bangalore welcomed the gathering and Mr Mayank Kumar, co-founder and MD of upGrad gave a special address. About 52 participants received their programme certificates and the top two rank holders were awarded. This marks the culmination of the 15-month customized programme offered by IIIT-B in collaboration with upGrad.

‘Audio Sensation’ Music Contest
Audio Sensation, the annual music competition, achieved resounding success with 25 finalists across Solo Vocals, Duet Vocals, and Solo Instrumentals. Beyond showcasing musical talent, it fostered community and gratitude among participants who appreciated the chance to learn and perform alongside their peers.
