Nithya Ganesan, (Winner of Best Paper Presentation Award, 12th International Conference on Industrial Technology and Management, University of Cambridge) gave a talk on ‘Performance Evaluation of Virtual Network Service Function Deployment in Docker Containers’. The talk highlighted the necessity for network providers to deliver adaptable and reliable services in a competitive market. Proprietary hardware-based solutions lack scalability and flexibility, leading to vendor lock-in and high costs. Optimizing performance via cloud-native network function placement is critical. This talk showcased a solution for placing service function chains in containers using OpenStack orchestration. Future research extensions for 5G networks may improve performance and reduce costs.

Dr. Manish Kumar on Research to Entrepreneurship – Solving Interesting Problems in Railway Domain
Dr. Manish Kumar who runs his startup, Mathologic from IIIT Bangalore, has worked with Indian Railways, MDI Gurgaon and Infosys before starting his entrepreneurial Journey. He has PhD from IIM Calcutta. Under the theme, ‘Innovators’, Dr. Manish spoke on ‘Research to Entrepreneurship – Solving Interesting Problems in Railway Domain’. He spoke on locomotive optimization for Indian Railways and the ways students can pick a problem and convert it to revenue earning machine.
