IIITB is now ranked among the Top 10 Technical Universities in India by India Today in August 2020.
Vembi Technologies Pvt. Ltd was one of the winners of Elevate/Idea2PoC Competition Karnataka 2020 organized by Karnataka Innovation & Technology Society, Department of Electronics, IT, Bt and S&T, Government of Karnataka as part of Startup Karnataka initiatives. The award ceremony was held at The LaLiT Ashok, Bengaluru on 10th of March, 2020 and presided over by the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, Mr. C N Ashwath Narayan.
Vembi Technologies Pvt. Ltd. is the product arm of Vision Empower, a not-for-profit enterprise incubated at IIITB, which in partnership with IIITB and Touche’tech Labs has created Hexis – a portable low cost electronic Braille reader. Hexis uses the tactile Braille cell technology from Touchétech Labs Pvt. Ltd. and automatically converts text to Braille and makes currently scarce reading material easily available to school students who are blind or visually impaired.
The winning presentation was made by Vidhya Y and Rajagopal N. The product was the brainchild of researchers Rajagopal N from IIITB and Paul D’ Souza of Touchétech Labs, with Prof. Sujit Chakraborty as the Principal Investigator from IIITB. The project was supported by Machine Intelligence and Robotics (MINRO) Lab at IIITB headed by (Late) Mr. Tridib Roy Choudhury.

- Best Student Paper Award (Honorable Mention): Shreekantha Nadig, Sumit Chakraborty, Anuj Shah, Chaitanay Sharma, V. Ramasubramanian, Sachit Rao, “Jointly learning to align and transcribe using attention-based alignment and uncertainty-to-weigh losses” (presented by Shreekantha Nadig MS2016010).
CircuitVerse has been accepted for Google Season of Docs this year (GSoD 2020). The same can be seen here.
GSoD is a unique program which focusses on technical writing and documentation. During the program, participants contribute to accepted open source organizations and in turn get paid by Google as compensation. The only eligibility criteria is 18+ years, so even professors and working professionals can participate here. The Project list can be accessed here.
The most exciting project CircuitVerse has for GSoD is Interactive Book which aims to be an accessible and interactive starting place for students to self-learn digital logic and digital circuits. It was started as a GSoC project and has grown considerably since then.
