Patent Granted for Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface for Enhanced Signal Reflection and Beam Steering

A patent has been granted to IIITB COMET Foundation, IIIT-Bangalore, and IIT Roorkee for “Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface for Enhanced Signal Reflection and Beam Steering.” The innovation focuses on enhancing wireless network performance by dynamically controlling electromagnetic wave reflection, especially in non-line-of-sight environments. The work was carried out under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

IIIT-B Students won at the DP World National Hackathon 2026

Integrated M.Tech. students from IIIT-Bangalore secured first place at the DP World National Hackathon, held at BITS Hyderabad from April 2 to 5, 2026. The winning team, Dhad Dhad Dhad, comprising Siddeshwar Kagatikar, Bhavya K., Tanish Pathania, Vrajnandak Nangunoori, and Dikshant Mahawar, was recognised for developing an innovative technology-driven solution to a complex logistics challenge.

The hackathon focused on optimizing port yard operations by minimizing crane movements and reducing operational costs through intelligent container placement – an issue central to improving efficiency in modern supply chain systems.

Addressing this challenge, the team developed Project Nexus, an AI-powered yard optimization system designed to bring real-world operational context into decision-making. The solution incorporated a dynamic knowledge graph, representing each container as a node and integrating it with real-world entities such as trucks, highways, and operational signals including hazards and delays. Real-time contextual updates fed into the system, enabling adaptive planning and improved decision-making.

A key feature of Project Nexus was its Graph RAG pipeline, which computed priority weights for containers, combined with a mathematical optimization engine that determined the most efficient yard placement strategies. The system demonstrated how artificial intelligence and advanced computational methods can be applied to solve practical industrial challenges.
