Research & Innovation Horizons expanded at IIITB-Mphasis RISE 2023

The two-day knowledge-packed event IIITB-Mphasis RISE 2023 successfully stimulated the scientific outlook amongst students and other visitors who visited in hundreds from various colleges, corporates and the general public. The event provided a platform for experts to express their opinions in the form of panel discussions series on interesting and relevant topics and explore topics of discussion that provide value and insight for the listening audience. This year’s IIITB-Mphasis RISE was special as it provided the glimpse of the important research activities that was undertaken at IIITB in the last 2+ decades along with the Societal Impact created by various projects of the Institute.

The two walls set up represented IIITB’s work in the areas of research, innovation, society and entrepreneurship. The stalls showcased the various research works to the general public. The poster presentations and demos by faculty and students were some of the highlights of the event. 

Some of the significant Innovation and Entrepreneurship work showcased also provided visitors with an idea of the versatility of the institute’s work. At the MINRO Experience Center, visitors had a diverse range of demos on the latest advancements in ongoing research such as Digital Identity, offering visitors insights into the future of secure digital identification; Decisions with Data, exploring how data-driven insights were transforming decision-making across industries and Smart Environment, where visitors experienced cutting-edge technology in the realm of environmental sustainability. The demos also covered the themes of Hardware & VLSI, Theory & Computing, Multimedia, and The Base, offering each and every one who are interested in latest technological advancements to muse over.

Day 2, Open House on February 25 began with an address by Prof. Debabrata Das, Director, IIIT Bangalore, who said, “The Open House has a focused output of IIITB through all the four aspects-Research, Innovation, Society and Entrepreneurship, thus contributing to the well-being of the society and its ecosystem.”

The keynote address by Dr. Subrata Rakshit, Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR) was a highlight of the Open House. He spoke on ‘Convergence, Divergence & Coexistence of Humans and AI’. “Everything which was defined by software will graduate into AI defined, which is an upcoming trend. Highly competitive and demanding world itself are the key drivers of AI and the opportunities for research and innovation in this domain are enormous,” opined Dr. Subrata.

IIITB-Mphasis RISE 2023 featured four engaging panel discussions, each dedicated to a distinct theme. The Authors’ Panel explored the ins and outs of publishing, providing attendees with invaluable insights into the publishing process. The Recruiters’ Panel examined the future of work and how organizations could shape it to drive growth and innovation. The Startups’ Panel featured a highly anticipated startup battle and offered advice to aspiring business owners. The Researchers’ Panel, titled “NEXTGEN Research” provided a platform for top-level researchers and research administrators to discuss the latest advancements in research and innovation. Attendees had the unique opportunity to gain insights from experts across a diverse range of fields and engage in thought-provoking discussions.

Prof. Shivkumar Malapaka, who chairs and spearheads the event every year, said, IIITB-Mphasis RISE 2023 was indeed a successful one, as some of the significant innovation work showcased attempted to provide the visitors with an idea of the versatility of our work at IIITB.
