With the support of faculty, Mr. Subramani K and Mr. Pavan Patil were able to publish their papers at relevant conferences.Subramani’s Paper was a Tribute to Mathematician, Srinivasa RamanujanMr. Subramani K, who not only enjoys working long hours on numbers to discover new properties but holds number of world records for fast calculations. He was also featured in several media for his panache for his mathematical abilities.As a tribute to mathematics genius, Srinivasa Ramanujan’s birthday last year, 22/12/2022 found a new method to determine interesting numbers associated with PI, E, and other basic mathematical constants. Subramani’s method determines a number ‘c’, which when multiplied by the Ramanuan-Hardy number b=1729 yields the first 10 digits of PI, …, 3141592653 (first 10 Pi digits without decimal point). In its most significant digits. While this is relatively simple, simultaneously C when divided by B yields the same PI digits in the least significant digits – constraints appear on both sides.Essentially Mr. Subramani’s work presents a method to solve an exponential Diophantine Equation of the formPI<D digits> * 10x + y = z * 10D+ PI(D digits>Subramani’s algorithm provides a method to generate a seed solution for the exponential Diophantine equation in variables x, y and z. From this solution, many others can be generated. This result may be of interest to high school and college students, as a mathematical challenge.Mr. Subramani wanted to present his work at a professional forum, and he approached Prof. G N Srinivasa Prasanna who readily agreed to support him throughout the process. Prof. Ramesh Kestur also helped him with the algorithmic formulation.Mr. Subramani presented his work on numbers with interesting properties on 5th February at the International Conference On Emerging Trends In Mathematical Sciences & Computing (IEMSC – 23) at Kolkata, India from February 3-5. The work is being polished now for publication as a book chapter in the Edited Volume titled ” A Handbook on Emerging Trends in Mathematical Sciences & Computing ” by Nova Sciences Publishers, USA.This work was appreciated by Professor Bruce Berndt, , and one the world’s foremost authorities on the work of Ramanujan. Professor Bruce replied with feedback for Subramani’s work, saying “It is remarkable that you get the first 100 digits of Pi by dividing your number by 1729. I cannot supply any reason why this so.”
‘IoT based Data Sensing System for AutoGrow’ by Mr. Pavan PatilA paper titled “IoT based Data Sensing System for AutoGrow: An Autonomous Green House System for Precision Agriculture” was presented at APSCON IEEE 2023 SENSOR CONFERENCE on January 25. This work is funded by CIET with Prof. Madhav Rao as the patron. The team members are Pavan, Phani, Aparna and Prof. Ramesh Kestur as PI. This work focuses on the technology interventions to the specific challenges faced by Indian farming sector.In the current State-of-the-Art, Precision Agriculture (PA) systems are based on western conditions of not having sunlight and conditions that doesn’t favor year-around agriculture and these systems require a controlled environment such as systemic control of temperature and humidity which is very costly and consumes significant power.In India, though we are blessed with a climate for perennial agriculture, there are challenges to the efficient use of scarce resources such as water for proper crop cultivation. In this context, AutoGrow method was proposed. AutoGrow is a hybrid model which uses open farming and at the same time realizes autonomous control of irrigation and other crop inputs. Wick irrigation is incorporated in the system. This can save 60% of water compared to the drip irrigation system.This project is an interdisciplinary work in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR). This system can be extended to backyard and terrace gardening. In the subsequent phase of the project, there is a proposal to adopt AI/ML techniques for autonomously controlling the system.
