Happy Healthy Hour
Happy Healthy Hour was a fun, recreational and healthy event organized for faculty and staff of IIIT Bangalore as a part of International Women’s Day celebrations. A self-defense session was organised exclusively for women and a fitness session was organised for men too.

International Women’s Day celebrations
IIIT Bangalore celebrated International Women’s Day on March 15. Our Director, Prof. Debabrata Das addressed the gathering at Auditorium Lobby at Ramanjuan Block. He acknowledged women’s managerial skills both on career and family fronts. All women folks thoroughly enjoyed canvas painting organised as a part of celebrations. There was a screening of well-known, Vidya Balan starrer, Kahani, Hindi movie at the Auditorium.

The Basketball Federation of India’s (BFI) 3×3 match was held at Sri Kanteerava Stadium, Bangalore during March 18-20. IIIT Bangalore’s Men and Women’s teams participated in the tournament. Following is a list of participants:

IIIT Bangalore conducted sessions for the professionals from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited who had enrolled for the Post Graduate Diploma in Data Science/ Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence. IIIT Bangalore’s faculty members mentored the learners and evaluated their course presentations. In-person interaction with faculty members helped the learners to plan their career growth too. It was a great experience to the learners when they participated in the sports activity, ‘Spandan 2022’.

Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan was honored with Lifetime Achievement award by BITES at IIIT Bangalore
Global business and technology thought leader, Mr. Senapathy Kris Gopalakrishnan, Chairman, Axilor Ventures and Co-Founder, Infosys was conferred with ‘Lifetime Achievement Award-2021’, by Board for IT Education Standards (BITES) in a function organized in IIIT Bangalore on March 26, 2022 in the IIITB campus.
Mr. Kris was awarded Lifetime Achievement and felicitated by Prof H P Khincha, Chairman, Karnataka State Innovation Council and Former VC, VTU and Former Professor, IISc, Prof Debabrata Das, Director, IIIT Bangalore, Prof Kavi Mahesh, Director, IIIT Dharwad, Prof KNB Murthy Chairman, BITES and Sri M N Vidyashankar Co-Chairman, BITES. The award ceremony was witnessed by the faculty members, staff and students of IIITB and invited esteemed dignitaries.
From being an IT stalwart and playing a major role in creating a world-class IT industry in India, Mr. Kris has now channeled his passion for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship by way of his patronage to projects at academic institutions and funding startups. In his address to the gathering, he said, “After 33 years in Infosys, I wanted to try my hand at something different. I chose to support brain research both on the computational side and clinical side to understand how the brain ages and how disorders that arise due to aging such as Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, and other neurological disorders manifest. On the computational side, we can invent new and efficient processes using AI, ML and the new ML algorithms to have transparency built into it.”
Mr. Kris served as the vice-chairman of Infosys from 2011 to 2014 and the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Infosys from 2007 to 2011. Post his retirement from Infosys, Kris has been very active in promoting the Indian startup ecosystem and philanthropically supporting research on brain sciences, aging-related disorders, and healthcare in India. Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan is also a recipient of the Padma Bhushan the country’s third-highest civilian honor.
Mr. Kris thanked BITES for honoring him with Lifetime Achievement Award. With the multiple paradigm shifts in academics in recent times, he said that BITES has a significant role in improving the standards of IT education and digital technology education research in Karnataka.

Spandan 2022
After two years of hiatus due to the pandemic, ‘Spandan, the annual sports event of IIIT Bangalore finally hit the ground on March 25. It was inaugurated by our Director, Prof. Debabrata Das. All participants including students, faculty and staff members took part in 18 different sports including Tennis, Badminton, Basketball, volleyball, football and so on. The three-day event was concluded with a prize distribution ceremony on March 27.

Pre-placement NetApp Event
NetApp conducted a pre-placement event at IIIT Bangalore. Mrs. Anu Mangaly, Principal Engineer, NetApp held a session on “Data Fabric in the era of Digital Transformation” with special focus on the work at NetApp and the role NetApp plays in the larger ecosystem. Mr. Saidu Buhari, Director of Software Engineering, NetApp answered all the queries from the students. Mr. A G Poonacha and Ms. Taskeen Fatema, Early in Campus Coordinators were also present at the event.

Farewell to Mr. Vikas
A farewell was held for Mr. Vikas, Facility Manager of iIIT Bangalore. He served the institute for over five years and supervised facility management, electrical maintenance, gardening and security staff.
