Closing ceremony of Training programme for IAF Officers
A comprehensive 90-hour training programme on the Fundamentals of Communication Theory and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) for Software-Defined Radio (SDR) waveform generation was conducted for officers of the Indian Air Force. Twelve officers participated in the programme, delving into the intricacies of these critical subjects. The training concluded on May 3, with each officer receiving a participation certificate from our Director, Prof. Debabrata Das.
The closing ceremony was honored by the presence of our Dean of Academics, Prof. Chandrashekar Ramanathan; the Registrar, Commodore SR Sridhar (Retd); and Commander JV Prasad (Retd).

On May 9, IIIT-Bangalore convened a special Senate meeting. This important assembly brought together key faculty members and administrative officials to discuss and deliberate on critical academic and institutional matters. Book talk-Dr Krishna Jayakar-Penn State University
A book talk is essentially a brief speech designed to encourage readers by highlighting a book’s plot, characters or themes. On May 22, IIIT-Bangalore hosted such a talk, featuring Dr. Krishna Jayakar, Professor and Head of the Department of Telecommunications and Media Industries at the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications, Penn State University, USA. Dr. Jayakar discussed the book he co-authored, “Making Policy for the New Information Economy: Mobile Standards in China and India for 3G to 5G and Beyond.”

IIIT-Bangalore, in collaboration with IIIT Hyderabad, hosted the 3D Vision Summer School (3DVSS 2024)
The event was a comprehensive seven-day program focused on advanced topics in 3D vision. The summer event was open to undergraduate students in their 3rd or 4th year, Master’s and PhD students, as well as industry professionals interested in 3D vision. The event brought together around 150 participants from both academia and industry, providing a unique platform for networking and collaboration.
This summer school aimed to provide participants with deep technical insights and hands-on experience in cutting-edge 3D vision technologies. The curriculum included core technical sessions on topics such as Deep Learning in 3D Computer Vision, Human 3D Modeling, Deep Learning-based 3D Rendering and Generative AI in 3D Vision.
The participants had the opportunity to learn from leading researchers in the field through a series of invited talks from Dr. Stefanie Wuhrer, INRIA, France; Prof. PJ Narayanan, IIIT Hyderabad, India; Dr. Vladislav Golyanik, MPI Informatik, Germany; Dr. Bernhard Kerbl, TU Wien / CMU, United States; Prof. KS Rajan, IIIT Hyderabad, India; Prof. Karan Singh, Toronto University, Canada; Dr. Ramya Hebbalaguppe, TCS Research, India; Prof. Manmohan Chandraker, NEC Lab, United States; and Dr. Shunsuke Saito, Reality Labs, Meta, United States.

Planting of Tree Sapling
As a goodwill gesture, the EkStep Foundation donated plants to enhance the green landscape of IIIT-Bangalore. Representing Padma Bhushan awardees Nandan Nilekani and Sri Gopalakrishnan, our director Prof. Debabrata Das planted a tree. Additionally, Registrar Cmde SR Sridhar (Retd.) and CAO, Mr. J P Patil planted saplings on behalf of Prof. Debabrata Das and Mr. Shankar Maruwada, Co-Founder and CEO, EkStep Foundation.

Housekeeping Staff Celebrate May Birthdays
The money generated from dry waste segregation is typically used to celebrate the birthdays of housekeeping staff once a quarter. The remaining funds are allocated for any essential needs of the housekeeping staff. On May 31, one such occasion took place, where the birthdays of several housekeeping staff members falling in May were collectively celebrated.
