DPI Dialogues 2024

The “DPI Dialogues” event was hosted by the Centre for Open Societal Systems (COSS) at IIIT-Bangalore. This initiative was part of MOSIP, IIIT-B’s open-source project aimed at providing digital ID solutions, especially for developing nations. COSS, in collaboration with the EkStep Foundation, focuses on creating and deploying open-source digital infrastructure to address large-scale social issues through Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and Digital Public Goods (DPG).

From June 3 to June 14, a delegation from the Brazilian Government participated in the India DPI Immersion Program at IIIT-Bangalore. Organized by COSS and supported by the EkStep Foundation, this program was designed to offer the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services and its partners an in-depth experience of India’s DPI initiatives.

Web Science for Development (WS4D 2024)


The Web Science for Development (WS4D 2024) workshop conducted on June 10 was a part of the Web Science research initiative at IIIT-Bangalore. WS4D, started in 2019 brings together professionals from several domains, addressing different thematic concerns pertaining to the use of web and mobile technologies in developmental efforts. The theme of this year’s WS4D workshop was Digital Public Infrastructures. The workshop was a part of a week-long DPI Conclave.

 The workshop featured invited talks by visiting researchers from the Centre of Data for Public Good, IISc Bangalore and other invitees from other parts of India. The workshop involved a DPI thinking poster presentation competition.

During his talk, Dr. Jyotirmoy Dutta from CDPG, IISc emphasized that following the implementation of ‘Identity’ through Aadhaar and ‘Financial Inclusion’ via Unified Payment Interfaces (UPI), the third pillar of India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) stack, known as the ‘India Stack’, is set to revolutionize data-driven innovation through Electronic Data Exchanges (DX). Platforms like the India Urban Data Exchange (IUDX) and Agriculture Data Exchange (ADeX) ensure that data access is seamless, secure, consent-based, and interoperable, thereby opening new opportunities and empowering the ecosystem.

Dr. Raghuram Krishnapuram, CDPG, IISc said that the importance of digital public infrastructure in enabling an ecosystem of technologists, policy makers and application developers cannot be underestimated.

Workshop and Faculty Development Programme on DPI in the Age of AI


A Workshop and Faculty Development Programme on Digital Public Infrastructures in the Age of AI was held from June 11-13 that aimed to create awareness about DPIs in terms of their socio-technical requirements, present state-of-the-art methodologies that real-world DPI developers are using, and cutting edge research challenges around the theme of DPIs and how researchers in the area of social science, computer science and AI are trying to address these challenges.

Ethical RISC-V IoT Workshop

IIIT-Bangalore conducted an educational competition, “Ethical RISC-V IoT Workshop” with VSD! Started from May 9, the event comprised hackathon and workshop to tackle real-world IoT challenges. Participants built applications, managed faults and enhanced security, and top innovations were showcased.

The theme of the hackathon was “Build, Hack, Secure.” Participants began by building RISC-V applications at the first level, followed by fault injection at the second level, and finally securing their hardware at the final level. The top 50 teams were invited to showcase their work at IIIT-Bangalore, and the top 10 teams were awarded cash prizes. This initiative was carried out by the IT BT Department of Karnataka in collaboration with the Centre for Internet of Ethical Things (CIET) at IIIT-Bangalore.

International Yoga Day

The International Day of Yoga was celebrated with great enthusiasm and participation at IIIT Bangalore on the 21st of June at 10:00 AM. The event aimed to promote the benefits of yoga. unity among participants. The event commenced with a Lamp lightning by the Dean Academics of IIIT Bangalore, Prof. Chandrashekar Ramanathan along with all other dignitaries.

A yoga session was conducted by a certified yoga instructor, Mr. Indranil Ray. The session included various asana (postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), and meditation techniques. The event not only highlighted the importance of yoga in achieving a balanced life but also fostered a sense of community and well-being among the attendees. It served as a reminder of the profound impact of yoga on physical and mental health, encouraging everyone to incorporate it into their daily routines.
