24th Convocation of IIIT-Bangalore

IIIT-Bangalore hosted a distinguished lecture by Dr. Yoshika Ogawa, Senior Associate Professor at the University of Aizu and Deputy Director of the Aizu Research Center for Space Informatics. During the talk, Dr. Ogawa shared her expertise in space informatics, highlighting cutting-edge research and advancements in the field.

IIIT-Bangalore held its 24th Convocation on July 7, 2024 and the ceremony saw 343 students graduate from the institute. The students were from various academic programs -121 graduates from the Integrated Master of Technology program, 174 from the Master of Technology program, 14 from the Master of Science in Digital Society program, 23 from the Master of Science by Research program, and 11 dedicated PhD scholars.

The ceremony was graced by Chief Guest, Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India & Former Director of IIT Kanpur and Guest of Honour, Ms. Debjani Ghosh, President NASSCOM. The ceremony was presided over by the IIIT-Bangalore Governing Body Chairman, Padma Bhushan Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan and Prof. Debabrata Das, Director of IIIT-Bangalore.

Orientation for M.Tech 2024 Batch

The Orientation for the M.Tech 2024 Batch at IIIT-Bangalore was held to welcome new students into the programme and provide them with essential insights into the academic journey ahead.

Additional Land Acquired for Campus Expansion

IIIT-Bangalore expanded its campus by acquiring an additional 3 acres and 3 guntas of land. This new purchase supplements the institution’s previously acquired land, providing the necessary infrastructure and a conducive learning environment and accommodating future growth.

Session on Compassionate Communication for Staff

Prof. Priyanka Sharma, Leadership Development Consultant and Coach at IIIT-Bangalore, conducted an insightful workshop for staff on the principles of non-violent communication. The session focused on key aspects such as honoring one’s feelings, fostering empathy within and around oneself, enhancing self-awareness and practicing deep listening to both oneself and others. The highly interactive nature of the workshop allowed participants to engage actively, leading to valuable takeaways and a deeper understanding of effective communication practices.

The key officials of IIIT-Bangalore convened a comprehensive orientation session for the parents of newly enrolled students in the B.Tech and integrated M.Tech (i-M.Tech) programs. MoU Between IIIT-Bangalore and IIIT Surat

An MoU was signed between IIIT-Bangalore and IIIT-Surat, marking the beginning of a partnership aimed at enhancing academic and research collaboration between the two esteemed institutions. This agreement facilitates the exchange of students for the Summer Research Internship Programme (SRIP), allowing students from both institutes to gain valuable research experience and exposure. Additionally, the MoU offers students the opportunity to enroll in a semester-long study program at each other’s campuses, promoting cross-institutional learning and cultural exchange.

Campus Induction for B.Tech and i-M.Tech Students

The newly admitted B.Tech and i-M.Tech students at IIIT-Bangalore were warmly inducted into the campus community through a comprehensive orientation program. Held from July 19 to 31, the program was designed to familiarize students with the unique campus culture, the importance of academic integrity and the expected standards of conduct and etiquette.

Throughout the orientation, faculty and staff members guided students through various aspects of life at IIIT-Bangalore. This included an introduction to the range of sports activities available, encouraging students to engage in a balanced lifestyle that promotes both physical and mental well-being. The students were also briefed on the role and functions of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), emphasizing the institute’s commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all. This orientation not only set the stage for their academic success but also integrated them into the vibrant and supportive IIIT-Bangalore community.

Lean-In club of girls hosted a fireside chat with Ms. Mercedes Soria, Executive Vice President of Software Engineering and Chief Intelligence Officer at Knightscope Inc. Mercedes. She is a renowned leader in the field of robotics security, combining self-driving technology, robotics, and artificial intelligence to predict and combat crime. During the engaging fireside chat, she shared her insights on technology trends in the United States, with a focus on the latest advancements in AI and robotics. She also discussed her journey and experiences in STEM, providing valuable advice to students on navigating this exciting field.
