The Smart City Workshop 2026 (SCW 2026), sponsored by the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan (IEEJ), was successfully held at IIIT-Bangalore recently.

The workshop opened with remarks by Prof. Debabrata Das, Director of IIIT-Bangalore.
The two-day event brought together researchers, faculty members, and students from leading academic and industrial organizations, including Indian Institute of Technology Madras, University Putra Malaysia, Hitachi, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Ibaraki University, National Institute of Technology Kure College, University of Hyogo, and Kagawa University.
SCW 2026 featured invited and keynote talks by distinguished experts including Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati; Mr. Bapu S Bindhumadhava (Centre Head PGCoE IISc); Dr. N. Subramanian (Executive Director, Society for Electronic Transactions and Security); Prof. Jyotsna Bapat (Professor, IIIT-Bangalore); and Prof. Shigeki Takeda (Professor, Ibaraki University, Japan).
The workshop also included 37+ technical paper presentations across multiple sessions covering topics such as wireless communication systems, radar technologies, smart automation, sensing systems, and smart city applications, fostering knowledge exchange, collaboration, and discussion on emerging technologies shaping future smart cities.

We recently hosted the 9th edition of RISE Open House (Research, Innovation, Society and Entrepreneurship), showcasing the latest research and innovation at IIIT-Bangalore. The event brought together students, researchers, and industry professionals to explore Ph.D. opportunities, interact with faculty and scholars, and build meaningful collaborations.
Over 400 participants attended the keynote session, workshops, and poster presentations, with more than 80 research projects showcased across departments. We also announced 28+ summer internship opportunities during the event.
The keynote by Anand Rangarajan, VP, Engineering, Google DeepMind, highlighted the role of Artificial Intelligence and the continued importance of humans in an AI-driven world, followed by an engaging Q&A with the audience.
RISE Open House continues to be a platform for showcasing impactful research, fostering collaboration, and driving innovation that addresses real-world challenges.’
