The spirit of patriotism and progress filled the air at IIIT-Bangalore as the institute celebrated the 79th Independence Day on 15th August with grandeur, enthusiasm, and a touch of innovation. The celebrations were not only a tribute to the nation’s journey so far but also a reflection of the institute’s commitment towards a self-reliant and developed India.

The event started with the hoisting of the national flag, followed by an inspiring address by Director Prof. Debabrata Das. He reflected on the themes of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047, reminding everyone of our responsibility as citizens and innovators to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s growth story.

A special segment was dedicated to honoring the supporting staff members. In recognition of their invaluable contribution to the upkeep of the campus, the housekeeping staff were felicitated by the Director with a special cash award, followed by a heartfelt photo session. Their dedication and hard work were celebrated through these awards, underscoring IIIT-B’s belief that every member of the community plays a vital role in shaping its achievements.

The day also marked the launch of Food e, an all-in-one dining platform designed to make the food experience at IIIT-B smarter and more convenient. This innovative application was developed by the talented members of the food committee, Harsh Sinha and Kartikeya Dimri. Following the formal proceedings, the celebrations shifted to a vibrant cultural programme. The music club, Symphony, opened the stage with soulful patriotic songs that resonated with the audience’s emotions. The dance club, Impulse, then took over, filling the stage with electrifying energy through their dynamic performances. The drama club, Parvaz, brought a thought-provoking element to the event with a nukkad natak that explored how Gen Z’s expressions of patriotism often remain limited to social media. Their performance encouraged the audience to reflect on the true meaning of love for the nation beyond online platforms.

As the tricolor fluttered proudly against the clear August sky, IIIT-Bangalore’s celebration stood as a beautiful blend of tradition, recognition, and forward-thinking innovation, reminding everyone that the journey towards a developed India in 2047 is a shared mission, fueled by both passion and action.
