Onam at IIIT-B On 18th September, IIIT-Bangalore was buzzing with excitement as everyone on campus came together to celebrate Onam, Kerala’s beloved harvest festival. Students, staff, and faculty joined hands to mark the occasion with colors, music, and laughter, turning the day into a heartfelt celebration of culture and community.

The setting was enchanted with a bright and beautiful Pookolam, a flower rangoli carefully made by students, with the IIIT-B logo beautifully placed at its heart. Its vibrant colors lit up the campus and instantly brought smiles to everyone’s faces, reflecting the pride and togetherness of the IIIT-B family. Soon after the lighting of the lamp by our Director, the Dean of Student Affairs, and the Registrar, the festivities officially began, filling the space with warmth and joy.

The cultural programme began with a graceful Thiruvathira, a traditional dance performed by staff and students, flowing elegantly across the scene. This was followed by the booming beats of the Chenda Melam, Kerala’s iconic drum performance, which echoed through the campus and made hearts beat in rhythm.

The fun continued with Uriyadi, the lively pot breaking game, bringing laughter, cheers, and playful excitement as students and our Director joined in. Music, chatter, and cheer filled every corner of the campus, and the feeling of togetherness was felt all around.

The day ended with the much-loved Tug of War or Vadamvali, where teams gave it their all while the crowd cheered them on.
