On Saturday, 19th October, the IIIT-B community came together to celebrate Navratri in a grand and colourful manner with a Garba Night. The Garba is an expression of devotion to Goddess Durga, and is celebrated as a part of Navratri, a festival that celebrates her nine forms, extending over 9 different nights: one for each form. The dance is performed with simple movements and clapping in a circle around a symbol of the goddess, representing the cyclical nature of life, death and rebirth.

The student community prepared for it via a series of workshops conducted by the dance club of IIIT-B, Impulse. They practised for two days to put together a flawlessly cohesive dance, which the entire student community indulged in and perfected for the day of the event.

The rains could not stop the enthusiasm of the students. The event started with an aarti, wherein students came together to pray to and receive blessings from Goddess Durga, following which, prasad was distributed to all present. The music came on, and the event came into full form, with the hall filled to the brim with colourful whirling lehengas, flying kurtas, as well as the energetic dancing of all students present.

The event concluded late in the night, with a tired yet smiling crowd retiring to their respective hostels; looking forward to next year’s festivities.
