Kick, throw, smash, goal! Energy, competition, and sportsmanship were at the heart of Umang, the annual inter-college sports festival of IIIT-B. Held from November 21–24, the event saw over 1000 students from 30 different colleges competing in more than 17 events across various sports. For three action-packed days, our campus came alive with intense competition, team spirit, and unforgettable moments.
The festival featured eight diverse sports: Badminton (Singles and Doubles), Table Tennis (Singles and Doubles), Kabaddi, Chess, Volleyball, Basketball (3v3 and 5v5), Football, and Throwball. The atmosphere was electric as athletes, faculty, and staff united to create an unforgettable event, demonstrating the power of teamwork and collaboration.
The opening ceremony of Umang 2024 at IIIT-B kicked off with the hoisting of the IIIT-B flag by Prof. Debabrata Das, Director of IIIT-B. In his inspiring address, he emphasized the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, and Umang’s legacy of athletic excellence. The ceremony also included the felicitation of the Sports Committee of 2023-24 followed by an oath-taking ceremony where participants pledged to compete with integrity and respect.
The sports festival began with great enthusiasm, featuring events in football, badminton, chess, and more. Day 1 saw thrilling matches, including intense basketball and volleyball games, with IIIT-B’s teams securing early victories in table tennis, football, and volleyball. Day 2 continued with high energy, as home team support filled the stands. The highlight of Day 3 was the exciting football match between IIIT-B and Christ, where IIIT-B emerged victorious, securing first place. IIIT-B also claimed first place in chess and earned several second-place finishes, including in men’s team table tennis, badminton women’s singles, and badminton women’s doubles.
The festival concluded with an awards ceremony, where Prof. Debabrata Das, Director,IIIT-B and Dr. Neha Arora, Sports Officer presented certificates, medals, and trophies to the winning teams, celebrating their outstanding performances and sportsmanship.
