Prof. Debabrata Das, Director of IIIT-Bangalore, has been honoured with the Distinguished Alumnus Award 2025 by IIT Kharagpur!

The award was presented during the institute’s 71st Convocation. The award was presented by Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Director of IIT Kharagpur, Dr. S. Somanath, Former Chairman of ISRO and Dr. Anand Deshpande, Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of Persistent Systems.

IIIT-Bangalore has been honoured with the ELCITA Sustainability Awards 2024–25 in the following categories:

  • Excellence Award in Biodiversity Management
  • Excellence Award in Social Welfare & Community Services
  • Gold Award for Outstanding Sustainability Initiatives


The awards were presented on July 17, 2025, at the Ottera Hotel, Electronics City.
Prof. Debabrata Das, Director, IIIT-Bangalore; Mr. Jagadish Patil, Chief Administrative Officer; and Mr. Biswa Bhusan Dhal, Facility Coordinator & Store Keeper, received the awards on behalf of the institute

Our student team has won the second prize in the IEEE GRSS EO4SDG (Earth Observation for Sustainable Development Goals) 2024 Mini Project global competition, organized by the IEEE GRSS REACT Technical Committee.

The winning team comprises Ph.D. student Aswathi M.V and Integrated M.Tech. students Aditya Priyadarshi and Ananthakrishna K. Led by Aswathi, the team submitted a proposal titled “Change Assessment in ML-based Multihazard Susceptibility Maps in the HKH Region Using Piecewise Regression Models,” focusing on AI/ML solutions for geospatial challenges in the Hindu Kush Himalaya region.

The prize of USD 250 was conferred on July 23, 2025, at an online event.

The team was mentored by Prof. Jaya Sreevalsan Nair, IIIT-B and is affiliated with the GRSS Bangalore Section.


We are happy to share that our student team, Kanyarashi, comprising Likith Kasam, Taral Sanka, and Kusumanchi Vinay, secured the 2nd Runner-Up position at the Sense2Scale Hackathon, hosted at IIIT-Bangalore in collaboration with the Electronics City Industries Association (ELCIA) as part of the ELCIA Tech Summit 2025.

The team developed a Cold Chain Monitoring System to ensure reliable tracking of temperature and humidity, helping industries and communities maintain the quality and safety of essential goods. Their solution was appreciated by the judges for its real-world applicability, scalability, and impactful design.
