NYU Graduate Students Visit IIIT-B: Exploring India’s IT and AI Landscape
On January 15, 2025, the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B) welcomed a group of 15 multi-disciplinary graduate students, along with faculty and staff from New York University (NYU), as part of their field trip to Bengaluru. Their visit aimed to gain insights into how India is addressing its multifaceted challenges, particularly in the domains of IT and AI.
The day commenced with a small group activity where NYU students engaged with IIIT-B students in a structured design thinking workshop. This interactive session fostered collaboration, encouraging participants to brainstorm innovative solutions to real-world problems.
Following the workshop, the delegation embarked on a guided tour of IIIT-B’s renowned research centers, each playing a pivotal role in technological advancements:
- Modular Open Source Identity Platform (MOSIP): The students explored MOSIP’s groundbreaking work in digital identity solutions and its impact on global identity management.
- E-Health Research Center (EHRC): The group learned about cutting-edge healthcare technologie digital health and mental health initiatives aimed at improving medical access and efficiency.
- COMET Foundation: Researchers showcased their projects focused on computational methods and emerging technologies that drive scientific and technological progress.
- Vision Empower: A session on accessible education introduced the students to initiatives supporting visually impaired children in India through inclusive and assistive learning tools.
Throughout the visit, NYU students had the opportunity to interact with IIIT-B faculty and researchers, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the institute’s mission and priorities. The discussions highlighted India’s evolving IT landscape, AI-driven innovations, and the role of academic institutions in shaping technological solutions for global challenges.

Schneider Electric Delegation Explored Collaboration with IIIT-B
IIIT-B had the privilege of hosting a delegation from Schneider Electric, led by Mr. Marc Lafont, Vice President of Innovation & Upstream Marketing from the CTO Office, along with Ms. Rincy Rajan, General Manager (AI Innovation) at Schneider Electric. The visit aimed to explore potential collaborations within the industrial automation domain and discuss emerging technological trends.
The meeting was led by Prof. Debabrata Das, Director in the presence of esteemed faculty, and deans in attendance. The session fostered meaningful dialogue on mutual areas of interest, including AI, 5G & 6G, Industrial IoT (IIoT), Edge Control, Software Defined Automation, and Autonomous Production. Discussions also touched upon future trends such as Quantum Computing and Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN).
A brief presentation on IIIT-B provided the visitors with insights into the institute’s mission and ongoing research initiatives. Schneider Electric then delivered a presentation highlighting its innovative advancements in industrial automation. IIIT-Bangalore had the honor of hosting Admiral G Rambabu, Principal, Indian Naval Academy, during his recent visit to the campus. He met with Prof. Debabrata Das, Director, IIIT-B, and Commodore Sridhar, Registrar, IIIT-B, engaging in discussions on key matters, including the institute’s academic programs, research landscape, and potential areas of collaboration.
During his visit, Admiral Rambabu explored IIIT-B’s labs and Centres of Excellence, gaining insights into the institute’s cutting-edge research and technological advancements.
