IIIT-Bangalore held its 24th Convocation on July 7, 2024 and the ceremony saw 343 students graduate from the institute. The students were from various academic programs -121 graduates from the Integrated Master of Technology program, 174 from the Master of Technology program, 14 from the Master of Science in Digital Society program, 23 from the Master of Science by Research program, and 11 dedicated PhD scholars.

After Prof. Debabrata Das, Director of IIIT-Bangalore welcomed and read out the annual report to audience, all the graduating students were awarded with certificates. The ceremony had a Chief Guest, Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India & Former Director of IIT Kanpur, addressed the students and said, “The institute’s forward-thinking curriculum, including a unique master’s program in digital society, prepares graduates for rapid technological changes. With over 100 projects, prestigious publications, and innovations in digital public infrastructure, AI, e-health, and 5G/6G technologies, IIIT-Bangalore excels. Notably, the MOSIP platform aids e-governance in over 20 countries. Graduates are encouraged to embrace interdisciplinary collaborations, foster creativity, and contribute to India’s growth by becoming job creators rather than seekers.

We’ve built a world-class industry in India, setting global standards and giving us confidence. I urge you to strive to be the best and contribute to the world. IIIT, despite being small, has made significant international contributions. Every institution and organization should aim to do the same. If you make this your objective, you will not only achieve but exceed, and India will be seen as a global contributor. I wish you all the best for the future.

This is the era of transformation and peak disruption. As you enter the workforce, you will encounter constant rule changes, new players, and shifting goals, particularly in the field of AI. The bad news is that you’ll face a chaotic world where much won’t make sense, and you’ll need to unlearn much of what you’ve learned. However, the good news is that AI levels the playing field, making age and experience less relevant. Success will depend on how quickly you can unlearn, learn, and adapt. Embrace lifelong learning, and focus on staying ahead by being the best learner.

Ms. Guest of Honour, Ms. Debjani Ghosh, President NASSCOM said that this is an era of transformation and peak disruption, where constant change and AI level the playing field. Success will depend on your ability to unlearn, learn, and adapt quickly; embrace lifelong learning and strive to be the best learner.

Padma Bhushan Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan congratulated the students and said that we have built a world-class industry in India, setting global standards. He urged the students to strive for excellence and contribute globally.

The ceremony’s highlights were all about celebrating our students’ hard-earned achievements. R Vinay (M.Tech), Ankit Agarwal (i-MTech), and Kogatam Bharath (M.Sc Digital Society) took home the Institute Gold medals, while Diwakar Chittora snagged the Late Sri. N. Rama Rao Medal for Entrepreneur of the Year.

But what truly made the 24th Convocation unforgettable was a touching moment that had everyone in awe: a mother and son receiving their degrees together on the same stage. Ms. Ranjani Niranjan earned her PhD, while her son, Raghava S N, proudly accepted his Integrated M.Tech degree. This beautiful milestone is a shining example of the lifelong learning spirit that thrives at IIIT-Bangalore, where we don’t just encourage growth—we celebrate it.
